Hikes and Walks
Thanks to its location on the shores of Clew Bay at the foot of the majestic Croagh Patrick, its stunning landscapes, historical heritage and enormous
variety of well-mapped trails, Westport is a walker’s paradise. From relaxing strolls around town or along sandy beaches to exhilarating climbs,
exploring Westport on foot is the perfect way to experience all that this magical region has to offer.
Discover the picturesque town centre on a variety of assigned walks which lead you through the elegant tree-lined mall and along the Carrowbeg River
where you can admire the pristine Georgian architecture. Immerse yourself in Westport’s fascinating culture and heritage as you visit historical
buildings and monuments stopping to soak up the friendly atmosphere of local craft shops and traditional Irish pubs along the way.
For the slightly more adventurous County Mayo’s rolling hills and rugged coastline lend themselves perfectly to an invigorating days hike. In
particular taking the well-trodden pilgrimage route to the summit of the holy mountain Croagh Patrick is a unique and memorable experience and the
magnificent view from the top makes the challenging climb worthwhile. Alternatively, the Ridge Walk from Belclare Bridge to Lecanvey takes you to
2,510ft and offers equally good views of Clew Bay and its 365 islands.
