Horseback Riding

Westport has a huge range of equestrian opportunities. From cantering through the shallows of the Atlantic along the rugged Clew Bay coastline to trekking through woodland or rocky mountain terrain, all tastes and abilities are catered to.

The west of Ireland is well known for its hardy Connemara ponies and well-bred Irish Sport Horses, either of which would provide the perfect companion for a days riding in the Mayo region.

The Westport Woods Riding Centre has well-schooled horses and ponies and can arrange full days trekking over exhilarating and varied terrain for more experienced riders, or a peaceful afternoon trek through quiet country lanes for the less adventurous and experienced. Carrowholly Stables also offer a variety of guided scenic and coastal trails in the area, and can cater to individuals, groups and families at all levels of ability. Drummindoo Stud and Equitation Centre offers English and Western style horse riding instruction for all ages and holds pony camps during the school holidays.
